Soft XO Valentine Sugar Cookies for Sweet Celebrations
Ingredients

- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup cold salted butter
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Powdered sugar glaze
- Vanilla buttercream
- Royal icing
- Sprinkles or sanding sugar
- Melted chocolate
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream cold butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, mixing just until a soft dough forms.
- Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with XO-shaped cookie cutters.
- Place cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are set and centers remain soft.
- Let cookies cool briefly on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Decorate cooled cookies with icing, glaze, sprinkles, or chocolate as desired.
