Soft XO Valentine Sugar Cookies for Sweet Celebrations


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup cold salted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar glaze
  • Vanilla buttercream
  • Royal icing
  • Sprinkles or sanding sugar
  • Melted chocolate

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream cold butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, mixing just until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with XO-shaped cookie cutters.
  7. Place cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are set and centers remain soft.
  8. Let cookies cool briefly on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Decorate cooled cookies with icing, glaze, sprinkles, or chocolate as desired.
