Description

Thanksgiving Crockpot French Onion Meatballs: An Amazing Ultimate Recipe

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (for topping, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, add a little oil and sauté the sliced onions until they become soft and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  4. Transfer to Crockpot: Place the caramelized onions at the bottom of the crockpot.
  5. Add Meatballs: Carefully place the meatballs on top of the onions in the crockpot.
  6. Prepare Broth Mixture: In a separate bowl, mix the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and dried thyme. Pour this mixture over the meatballs and onions in the crockpot.
  7. Cook the Meatballs: Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours, until the meatballs are cooked through and tender.
  8. Serve with Cheese (Optional): If desired, sprinkle shredded Gruyère cheese on top of the meatballs during the last 30 minutes of cooking, allowing it to melt and create a delicious topping.
