Description

Create fun and festive Spiderweb Pizza Bites for Halloween. These easy, cheesy snacks feature a simple pizza sauce and melted string cheese web, topped with olive spiders, on a crispy base.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent dough sheet
  • 1/3 cup smooth pizza sauce
  • 4 oz string mozzarella cheese, pulled into thin strands
  • 68 large black olives, halved for bodies and sliced for legs
  • Optional: Shredded mozzarella cheese for base sprinkle
  • Optional: Garlic powder or garlic butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350-400°F (175-200°C), depending on your chosen base, to ensure a quick melt and light browning.
  2. Prepare the base: If using crescent dough, seal any perforations. Punch out 2-3 inch rounds and place them on a baking sheet.
  3. Sauce lightly: Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce on each round. This keeps the flavor balanced and the base crisp.
  4. Create the web: Arrange the thin strands of string mozzarella cheese in a starburst pattern on each round, then add two concentric rings to form a clear web design.
  5. Bake: For crescent rounds, bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges are golden. Adjust time for other bases like crackers or mini pitas.
  6. Assemble spiders: While the bites are still warm, cut the black olives into halves for bodies. Slice additional olive halves to create 6-8 leg slices for each spider. Place one olive head and body on each bite, then arrange the leg slices snugly around the body.
  7. Set the design: Return the bites to the oven for an additional 2-3 minutes to warm the spiders and set the web design without over-melting the lines.
  8. Rest briefly: Let the Spiderweb Pizza Bites rest for 2 minutes on the baking sheet to set the web lines.
  9. Serve hot for the best gooey texture and clear web appearance.

Notes

  • For larger pizza bases, par-bake them first, then add the web and spiders and finish baking for 2-3 minutes to set the design.
  • Keep the sauce layer thin to prevent it from bleeding through and obscuring the web pattern.
  • For parties, bake in batches and hold finished bites in a warm oven at 200°F (95°C) for up to 15 minutes to maintain quality.
