Savory Cheese Puff Pastry Christmas Trees – A Festive Holiday Appetizer


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups cold mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions or parsley (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • Vegetable oil, for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Combine mashed potatoes, all cheeses, egg, flour, garlic powder, herbs, salt, and pepper until well mixed.
  2. Roll mixture into 1–1.5 inch balls. Place on tray and chill 15–20 minutes.
  3. Roll balls in flour, dip in beaten eggs, then coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with dipping sauces.
