Description

Perfectly Crispy Cast Iron Skillet Pizza: An Incredible Ultimate Recipe

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup assorted toppings (pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc.)
  • Fresh basil leaves (for garnish, optional)
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add warm water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Let it Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rest for 30 minutes in a warm area.
  4. Preheat the Skillet: While the dough rises, preheat your cast iron skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
  5. Shape the Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough and transfer it to the skillet. Press it out to fit the shape of the skillet, ensuring it reaches the edges.
  6. Add Sauce and Cheese: Spread pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously on top.
  7. Add Toppings: Layer your chosen toppings over the cheese, distributing them evenly.
  8. Cook on the Stovetop: Cover the skillet with a lid and cook on medium heat for about 5-7 minutes to allow the bottom to crisp up.
  9. Finish in the Oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). After cooking on the stovetop, transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
  10. Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil and crushed red pepper flakes if desired. Cut into slices and serve hot.
