Description

Neapolitan Matcha Cookies are a delightful fusion of flavors, combining the earthy notes of matcha, the sweetness of vanilla, and the indulgence of chocolate. This recipe offers a visually stunning and delicious treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons matcha powder
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup white chocolate chips (optional)
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and matcha powder.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  6. Divide the dough into three equal parts. Leave one part plain for the vanilla cookie base.
  7. To one portion, mix in the cocoa powder to create the chocolate layer.
  8. To the second portion, ensure the matcha powder is fully incorporated.
  9. Scoop tablespoons of each dough onto the prepared baking sheet, alternating between the flavors to create a marbled effect.
  10. If desired, sprinkle white chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate chips on top of each cookie before baking.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  12. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use fresh matcha for the best flavor and color.
  • Experiment with toppings like nuts or sprinkles.
  • A cookie scoop ensures uniform cookie sizes for even baking.
  • Allow cookies to cool completely before storing to maintain texture.
  • Dough can be prepared ahead and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
