Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers (or 4–6 hibiscus tea bags)
- 8 cups water
- Sweetener to taste (optional, e.g., honey, agave nectar, stevia)
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves or lime slices for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the dried hibiscus flowers thoroughly under cool water.
- In a large pitcher or pot, combine the rinsed hibiscus flowers (or tea bags) with 8 cups of fresh water.
- Steep the hibiscus flowers in the water. For a stronger flavor and more potent benefits of hibiscus water, let it steep for at least 4-6 hours or preferably overnight in the refrigerator. For a quicker infusion, you can steep for about 30 minutes in hot water, but be mindful that prolonged boiling can diminish some beneficial compounds.
- Strain the hibiscus water to remove the flowers or tea bags. Discard the solids.
- If desired, sweeten the hibiscus water to your taste using your preferred sweetener. Stir well until dissolved.
- Serve the hibiscus water chilled over ice.
- Garnish with fresh mint leaves or lime slices for an extra burst of flavor and visual appeal.
