Description

Eggnog French Toast Bake is a festive, easy-to-make breakfast dish perfect for holiday mornings. This overnight casserole combines rich eggnog, spices, and buttery bread cubes for a custardy, sweet breakfast casserole that bakes to a golden, puffy finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • Cinnamon, to taste
  • Nutmeg, to taste
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups prepared eggnog
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9- by 13-inch baking dish or two 8- by 8-inch dishes with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar and maple syrup. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and pour into the prepared baking dish.
  3. Spread the cubed French bread on top of the mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg to taste.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs. Add the eggnog and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down lightly to coat all pieces.
  6. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  7. Preheat the oven to 325°F. Bake the casserole, covered with foil, for 40 minutes.
  8. Increase the oven temperature to 375°F, remove the foil, and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes until golden brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.
