Description

A hearty and comforting creamy sausage potato chowder, perfect for a chilly day. This easy recipe features savory sausage, tender potatoes, and a rich, velvety broth.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups diced potatoes (about 2 medium)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the sliced sausage over medium heat until browned. Remove sausage with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pot.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth and add the diced potatoes. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until potatoes are tender.
  5. Return the cooked sausage to the pot.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Heat through gently, but do not boil.
  7. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving your creamy sausage potato chowder.

Notes

  • For a thicker chowder, you can mash some of the potatoes against the side of the pot.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables like carrots or celery along with the potatoes.
  • Smoked sausage provides a great depth of flavor, but any cooked sausage will work.
  • This sausage potato chowder is best served immediately.
