Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Add softened butter to the dry ingredients and mix until crumbly using a hand mixer or stand mixer.
- In another bowl, whisk together the applesauce, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Gently fold in the grated apples with a spatula, ensuring they’re evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for 40-50 minutes. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean.
- Once done, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 30 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once the cake has cooled, drizzle generously with caramel sauce, allowing it to soak into the warm cake.
