Description

A classic Black Forest Cake, also known as Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, is a German chocolate cake with layers of chocolate sponge cake, whipped cream, cherries, and Kirschwasser. This recipe provides a traditional approach to creating this popular dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 60 saltine crackers (about sleeves)
  • ⅓ cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 additional tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • ⅓ cup honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place 60 saltine crackers in a food processor and pulse until finely crushed, or crush them inside a zip-top bag with a rolling pin.
  3. Transfer the crushed saltines to a medium bowl, ensuring they resemble coarse sand with some small pieces.
  4. Add ⅓ cup sugar and 1 teaspoon salt to the crushed crackers and mix well.
